International Handweaving Fair in Halmstad rescheduled for 2022
VÄV2020 became VÄV2021 and is now VÄV2022. The dates are September 22-24 2022, when we hope the weaving world can finally join together for the huge, wonderful fair in Halmstad Arena. This weaving fair is a large international event with many foreign visitors and attracts around 8,000–10,000 people, several of whom are more elderly.
The effect of being held so long at the starting blocks made our anticipation all the greater. Then the pandemic intervened, with no clear end in sight. So indefinite that we decided to postpone the fair until September 2022, out of consideration for the safety of our visitors, vendors and exhibitors. A prerequisite for holding the event is, of course, that the situation to do with the pandemic is under control.
• Creativity knows no bounds, so prepare yourselves for a packed programme once we open the doors in Halmstad for 22-24 September 2022. We are taking advantage of the extended planning time to launch new features on our website through the year, including digital events and happenings. We are really looking forward to arranging VÄV2022 in Halmstad. It will be an absolutely fantastic fair, says Tina Ignell, chairman of the Swedish Weaving Council.
VÄV2022 will build on the original concept with a full programme at Halmstad Arena as well as events in Halmstad, Halland and the surrounding area. The Swedish Weaving Council will provide regular updates about all matters concerning ticket purchases and the upcoming programme on vav2022.se.
• We hope that this fair will prove to be even better and more wide-ranging thanks to the extra time freed up for exhibitors to weave more and, not least, compose new work. Then there are the players who have already put in a great deal of planning and preparation work linked to the weaving theme. We are looking into how they might alter their various agendas. But it feels like what was already planned and prepared for 2021 will lay the foundations for a brilliant fair in 2022, says Marita Jönsson, craft and applied arts developer at Region Halland.
(Marita's statement from 2020: A large number of players have already put in a great deal of planning and preparation work linked to the weaving theme. Several are now also trying to move those exhibitions and programme activities to the following autumn, including Halland Art Museum and the Weaving Salon at Halmstad Art Hall, while other organizers are currently reviewing how they might change their agendas. A couple of weavers spontaneously responded to the announcement, happy that they now have time to weave more and produce even larger work! So waiting another year could also have great benefits, says Marita Jönsson, craft and applied arts developer at Region Halland.)
Reschedule – don’t cancel!
Halmstad Convention Bureau (Halmstad CVB) at Destination Halmstad is involved with recruiting major events and meetings to Halmstad. This is also important for the whole of Halland and its surrounding areas, fostering social development, jobs and income for the hospitality industry. Since the pandemic hit in early 2020, Halmstad CVB has worked hard to help organizers look ahead and find new dates.
• We are doing everything we can to create the very best conditions for an event and its visitors. Our aim is for organizers to feel confident in collaborating with us. I am proud and happy that Halmstad is hosting VÄV2022, making Halmstad that much more visible both nationally and internationally. It is also great to be able to show that Halmstad Arena is so much more than a sports facility. We have such incredible potential here in Halmstad, says Linda Hellring, project manager at Halmstad Convention Bureau.
VÄV2022 is organized by the Swedish Weaving Council in partnership with Culture in Halland - Handicraft / Region Halland, Destination Halmstad, Halmstad Arena and PR & Media.
