Have some serious fun with our weaving contest at the Weaving Square at Väv 2017

Set up a warp and weave a meter of cloth.
This is a timed competition. Your team, with a minimum of two members, can challenge other weaving studios, weaving groups, schools, or you can just sign yourself up. Warp: linen 16/2 using the colors of the weaving conference, black and gold. Weft: rug linen (mattlin) Reed: 50/10 2-4 = 20 tr/cm All of the supplies will be provided for you at the start of the contest. |
Process for teams:
Wind a warp according to your team’s previously planned design.
Use two colors, and have at least 2 color changes in the warp (at least one stripe.)
Dress the loom and weave.
The treadles and tie-ups will be ready for you to use.
Weave: 6 cm hems at each end with linen16/2
Weave 1 meter with rug linen (mattlin)
Hem the finished piece by hand.
Return the loom to the condition you found it (leave heddles, treadles, and tie-ups in place).
The contest entries will be judged on:
Time _____________minutes
Measurement____________cm 1 m with mattlin +hem
Artistic achievement: The jurors’ opinion 1 (low) 2, 3, 4, 5 (high)
Quality of work: The jurors’ opinion 1 (low) 2, 3, 4, 5 (high)
The winner is the team with the best time, measurement, artistic quality and quality of work.
TIP: Practice ahead of time. You’ll be glad you did.
